As a shepherd, Kevin seeks to care for the souls who have been entrusted to him. He is passionate about cultivating growth and giftedness in the church and leading the church in making disciples. Kevin is married to Alicia, and together they have seven children: McKenna, Landon, Meela, Madison, Liam, Levi, and Mariah. In his free time, Kevin enjoys traveling, playing games and taking walks with his family, watching and playing sports, especially basketball and soccer, reading books on theology, writing, and drinking coffee.

Rex Bailey

Minister of Music

Rex has served as the Minister of Music at First Baptist Richmond since 1995. He received his Bachelors of Arts in Music Education from the University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and his Masters of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is grateful for the inspiration received from revered mentors Dr. Kerchal Armstrong and Dr. Donald Hustad. He and wife Caryl have three grown children, their son Ross, and daughters Kevy and Brennyn. Rex has a passion for leading the church in heartfelt worship through hymn singing, cantatas, children’s choir ministry and handbell programs.  He enjoys labeling things around the house, filling his yard with bird feeders, and playing the banjo to keep the squirrels away.

Denise Matthews

Denise has been the church treasurer for over 35 years.  Both she and her husband, Gayle, came from a Catholic background, and joined First Baptist in 1977. She has seen many changes in the church from personnel and programs to major construction projects. She has been married to Gayle for 48 years and has two daughters and 5 grandchildren from ages 5-18. Denise has held many positions on the different boards in the church and has had enormous pleasure working with others and making many friendships within the church family. She considers herself blessed and hopefully has been a blessing to others. For 6 years, Denise, along with her husband Gayle had a family hobby of drag racing. Both of them competed on the race track and would bring the whole family along!

Michael Pepper

Mike has been our custodian at FBC for a year. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Mike, he is a humble and joyful soul. He is passionate about knowing the Lord more deeply, and worshipping Him. He sees the beauty of God in all of creation, which leads him to enjoy an active lifestyle such as riding his bike on the Cardinal Greenway. In Mike's free time, aside from exercise, you will find him reading, serving, or researching a new joke. His desire is to live a life of youthfulness and compassion for others. It wouldn't be an interaction with Mike unless you walked away with a riddle or joke, so, what time did God create Adam?
