What We Believe

God

We believe God the Father to be the sovereign, eternal, unchangeable, loving creator, sustainer, and ruler of the entire universe. He is fatherly in attitude toward all people but is truly the Father of those who become His children through Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ to be the eternal son of God, Who came to earth as a man to reveal God and redeem sinful humankind. He voluntarily became the sinless, substitutionary sacrifice on the cross, was resurrected from the grave, then ascended to the right hand of the Father where He intercedes on behalf of those who believe in Him. We believe His return is imminent.

Holy Spirit

We believe God the Spirit to be the Person of the Godhead Who convicts the world of sin, brings new life to the spiritually dead and baptizes believers into the body of Christ. He indwells, seals and comforts all believers, bestows them with spiritual gifts, then fills, directs, teaches and gives discernment to those who are yielded to Him.

The Bible and Its Use

We believe the entire Bible to be the inspired Word of God, written by men under the direction of the Holy Spirit, and inerrant as written in the original manuscripts. We accept the Bible as God’s revelation of Himself, His plan of redemption for humankind, and as an all sufficient and final authority in every matter of faith and daily life.

Baptism

We believe baptism by immersion to be a public expression of a believer’s identification of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. Baptism is an outward manifestation of the inward baptism of the Holy Spirit which occurs when one believes in Christ as Savior and Lord.

Lord's Supper

We observe the Lord’s Supper monthly as the remembrance of Christ and His sacrifice through the consumption of symbols of His blood and body and ordained by Jesus Christ to be observed by all believers until His return. It is to be a time for believers to rededicate themselves to God’s call on their lives.

The Human Condition

We believe that humankind was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is lost. We believe that all people fall short of God’s standards and are incapable of having a pleasing relationship with Him outside of Jesus Christ.

The Purpose, Place, and Mission of the Church in Today’s Society

We believe the Church to be the body of Christ made up of redeemed individuals who join together for worship, instruction, fellowship and service, and who go out into the community to exercise their individual gifts as led by the Holy Spirit.

The Role of the Laity

We believe the laity is to serve in partnership with the pastoral staff to carry out the work and testimony of the church in accordance with their individual spiritual gifts.

The Role of the Pastoral Staff

We believe the pastoral staff to be God’s representatives to the local church to carry out the call to preach, teach, lead and care for those in his/her sphere of influence.

Your Relationship to the Ecumenical Witness

We recognize the body of Jesus Christ to be composed of a variety of believers who may have styles of worship and be led by the Spirit in ways somewhat different than us. As such, we view them as fellow brothers and sisters in Christ with whom we must cooperate and work as led by the Spirit and for the glory of God.
